There are few companies that can match Disney’s reputation for premium content. When the iPad entered the mobile device landscape, it created a new medium where Disney could provide easy access to its celebrated movies.
Before the device was even released, Disney built a straw-man for a tablet application that could take advantage of available content, proprietary partner integration, and social media to create new conversion channels for box office, digital delivery, and retail DVD sales.
In order to build a fully functional application for the iPad, Disney needed access to marketing assets and other content that was stored by different divisions within the organization. The application needed all of the requisite components to funnel into a cohesive offering, supported by new digital pathways through the organization that did not require drastic changes to existing workflows.
Disney turned to Digital Foundry for its depth of knowledge and proven experience meeting tight deadlines with real market impacts. Even though the consumer offering had been conceptualized with a high degree of fidelity, it was unclear if the incumbent processes and systems could support the new marketing channel effectively and reliably.
A Digital Foundry team of architects, engineers, and consultants worked closely with the stakeholder team to assure that Disney’s service architecture would meet sophisticated content delivery needs. Further, the team built strategic administrative interfaces to ensure that the upstream content and marketing workflows informed the offering in a cohesive way, maintaining the integrity of the consumer experience.
The Digital Foundry team needed to ensure that at the conclusion of the project the service architecture could meet the data needs and requirements specifications of the design. This meant that Digital Foundry was responsible for modifying existing services, and developing, testing, and deploying brand new web services as needed.
Leveraging our existing relationship with Disney, we had deep experience and knowledge to support this development and implementation assuring rapid turnaround. Digital Foundry built the app to demanding specifications, making certain that there was no disconnect between the user interface and the content delivered, meeting both application requirements, as well as the project timeline.
By working closely with our client’s team to align requirements with implementation, Digital Foundry helped Disney engineer:
Mobile app to meet two goals: content delivery and location features to open up new advertising opportunities
Service-oriented architecture to support intriguing UI and deliver lots of content on demand.
Disney established its relationship with Digital Foundry in 2008. Since that time, it has used the full suite of Digital Foundry services.
