portland based yakima has been building gear storage and transportion racks, bins and baskets for 25 years.  outdoor enthusiasts everwhere log on to yakima’s website to customize yakima racks for their skis, snowboards, kayaks, and bikes.

CHallenge: growing online sales without disintermediating strategic sales channels

Yakima wanted to increase their sales reach by improving their Website, but they were wary of disintermediating strategic sales partners that had well-trafficed online stores of their own. Planned enhancements to the existing Yakima Website involved ceating new sales tools as well as integrating a new design with new and improved database functionality.

Solution: a managed third party integration gateway

During this site redesign, Yakima gained dynamic product pages, new automated forms for warranty registration and product feedback, automated email requests for product catalogs, and an Intelligent Product Configurator (referred to on the Website as “Choose My Rack.”) Digital Foundry also designed a database that Yakima can use to directly update the site with new product information, price changes, text and images.

In order to allow Yakima’s sales partners to benenfit from Yakima’s new online capabilities, Digitial Foundry designed a managed third party integration gateway.  The gateway permits strategic sales partners to use Yakima’s product configurator on their own Websites, ensuring that Yakima won’t disintermediate their key retail distributors..

Benefits: better distribution of product information and increased use of sales tools

As a result of these upgrades, Yakima better communicates product information to the general public and to valued sales partners. In addition, Yakima’s retail distributors are enabled to integrate the Intelligent Product Configurator directly into their own Websites, thereby increasing the utility of the tool and increasing Yakima’s return on its investment.
