partner ingest tool for 3rd party
content providers

America online, inc.

AOL IS A GLOBAL WEB SERVICES COMPANY WITH A SUBSTANTIAL AND GROWING WORLDWIDE AUDIENCE, A SUITE OF POWERFUL WEB BRANDS, INDUSTRY-LEADING PRODUCTS AND ONE OF THE LARGEST AND FASTEST-GROWING ADVERTISING NETWORKS IN THE UNITED STATES.

challenge: enable media ingestion for 3rd party content providers

To support the move from a subscriber model to an advertising model, AOL planned to add content from a wide variety of third-party content providers.  Rather than use in-house resources to upload third-party content, AOL’s Video group wanted to enable content providers to upload their media content to AOL via the Web along with all of the information that describes the media file itself. Enabling this functionality would reduce cost, increase partner services, and provide more publishing control for its content partners.

To develop this application, AOL needed a team that could quickly define, build and deploy a media ingest tool that was intuitive and capable of supporting AOL Video’s content classification and ingestion requirements.

Solution: a partner facing portal for uploading media content

AOL engaged Digital Foundry to develop a partner facing portal that makes it easy for content providers to upload their media content files (movies, clips, music,  etc.). Digital Foundry consultants worked closely with AOL project stakeholders to finalize the functional

specifications and the technical design to ensure that the Partner Ingest Tool met the business and technical requirements. The tool provides a set of metadata fields where content providers can enter titles, copyright and DRM information, availability dates, and other material associated with their media.  Most importantly, the tool supports multiple file types, thumbnail images, and a user membership validation system.

benefits: improved partner services and low-cost media maintenance

By working with Digital Foundry to design and implement the Partner Ingest Tool, AOL made it possible for their partners to provide and manage media content.  The tool is simple to use and manages extensive amounts of content and information.  By integrating the Partner Ingest Tool with their previous media management technology, AOL benefits from the increased ease of media management as well as reduced costs associated with providing extensive media content.
